• The cost of a taxi from the airport to the hotel is
E.C. $40 (U.S. $15) for 1-4 persons, depending on
the amount of luggage; from Kingstown the cost is
E.C. $15 (U.S. $6). This is subject to change, and
occasionally whim. Check the price before you start
out.
• Speaking of luggage: if you are traveling on LIAT to
St. Vincent, be aware that the baggage limitation is
now 1 checked bag totaling 50 pounds (22 kilos),
plus one carry-on not exceeding 15 pounds (7 kilos).
• The monetary unit in St. Vincent and the
Grenadines is the E.C. (Eastern Carribean) dollar.
The official rate of exchange is E.C. $2.67 to one
U.S. dollar. Most merchants will exchange U.S.
dollars for E.C. dollars at a discount, usually about
$2.60 to one. There is an ATM machine at the airport
and several in Kingstown.
• Credit cards are not widely in use. Most taxis do
accept U.S. dollars so you shouldn't have to
exchange funds before you arrive. One of the
island's largest supermarkets is located directly
across the street from the airport. Ask your driver to
make a stop if you want to pick up some supplies.
• St. Vincent has some of the best drinking water in
the Caribbean, straight from the tap. Bottled water is
readily available, however. You might even want to
consider a trip to the springs in the Congo Valley
during your stay.
Fort View Guest Apartments is approximately 15
minutes by taxi from E.T. Joshua Airport and 5
minutes from the capital Kingstown and the
Grenadines wharf.
• All apartments have balconies overlooking the sea
and cooking facilities, including a stove and fridge,
as well as ceiling fans and cable TV.
• Unlike many other Caribbean islands, St. Vincent
retains much of its West Indian heritage. During the
day, Kingstown is a vibrant and bustling city with
indoor and outdoor markets, street vendors, music,
and year ‘round cultural events. You will have no
difficulty finding things to do during your visit. The
Souffriere volcano is at the northern end of the
island, accessible by hiking trails from either the
leeward or windward side. Waterfalls are abundant
with Baleine, Trinity and Dark View being the most
popular. The Vermont Nature Trail is a relatively easy
two hour hike through the island’s central rain forest.
• The most popular beaches on the island are at Villa
and Indian Bay on the south side of the island, easily
accessible by taxi or the more economical “dollar
vans” (which range in cost from E.C. $1 to $5 per
trip). The leeward side of the island has many
spectacular black sand beaches with emerald green
water, ideal for snorkeling or diving.
• You will probably want to take one or more
excursions to the Grenadines. There are many
options available and we will be glad to assist you.
